- Polestar is set to build an EV within Europe for the first time, after it confirmed a future reveal of the Polestar 7.
- The Polestar 7 will be a fully-electric, premium compact SUV – set to compete with the likes of popular similar propositions already on the market, such as the BMW iX1 and Lexus UX Electric.
- Being built at a yet-to-be-confirmed location within Europe, Polestar says this will strengthen its global manufacturing network – but is also likely to be a direct response to the EU tariffs being imposed on electric vehicles made within China, which accounts for the wide majority of Polestar EVs currently on the market.
Polestar 7 coming soon as a compact, premium electric SUV
Polestar already produces its current EV range in several countries, including China, South Korea, and the USA. This European production expansion will, the manufacturer says, create a ‘well-balanced international manufacturing network’.
With the Polestar 7 name only announced this week, the timeframe for a reveal and subsequent launch of the compact electric SUV is yet to be known. The brand is already planning to launch the Polestar 5 grand tourer this year, which could indicate the Polestar 7 arriving in 2026 or later. The 7 will also mark the start of Polestar moving to a single architecture across its future Polestar range, further streamlining its operations.
It’ll be a busy couple of years for Polestar, with an updated business plan targeting annual retail sales growth of 30-35%, from 2025 to 2027.
Philipp Römers, Polestar’s Head of Design, commented on the future model:
“Polestar is known for its progressive design, with each car standing out and creating its own buzz – so too will Polestar 7. It is incredibly exciting to bring Polestar’s design ethos to a new segment. Polestar 7 will be everything our customers expect from us, both in terms of design and performance.”
