Polestar enters the ebike segment, in collaboration with Allebike

  • In a move that has become increasingly common from EV manufacturers, Polestar has revealed a branded electric mountain bike, built in collaboration with premium Swedish bike manufacturer, Allebike.
  • Polestar has already produced a non-electric bicycle in collaboration with the brand, but this marks the first electrically assisted pedal bike to be launched by the EV brand.
  • Matching the performance-oriented, high-end nature of Polestar’s passenger cars, the ‘Allebike Elize Polestar Engineered’ is a no-compromises eMTB.

The first Polestar ebike: A sign of things to come?

The new ebike mirrors the premium image of Polestar’s passenger cars. The frame itself is full carbon, while battery and motor is composed of a high-end Shimano EP8 motor, along with a sizable 750Wh battery pack. It also uses an Ohlins-brand full suspension setup, the same brand that provided the suspension for the limited edition Polestar 2 BST. Polestar decals are also stuck on various spots of the bike, while the frame is finished in the same dark ‘Space’ colour available on its electric cars.

Currently, the ebike is only available within select European countries, such as the EEA and Switzerland. However, the manufacturer notes that it hopes to bring the bike to additional markets, in the near future. At a price of €7,120, it’s by no means the cheapest ebike on the market, and while it’s more than capable of carrying out the daily commute, it’s more likely use case will be a weekend toy – ideally carried on the back of a Polestar EV, in the same colour. However, the addition of a ‘Mobility’ landing page to Polestar’s site, which the eMTB occupies, raises questions on whether the manufacturer could be bringing a more practical Polestar-branded electric bike to its portfolio, in the future.
