Polestar 4 secures prestigious Production Car Design of the Year, voted by global experts in Car Design News’ latest edition
The Polestar 4 has earned the prestigious Production Car Design of the Year award, securing the top spot through the votes of a distinguished international panel of professional car designers. The recognition was unveiled in the latest edition of the Car Design Review, published by Car Design News.
The 2023 judging lineup featured a 16-member panel, including design leaders from automotive giants like Audi, Ford, Lamborghini, Lucid, and Mercedes, among others. Judges were of course barred from casting votes for their own creations or even for vehicles within their brand clique, injecting a level of grit into the proceedings that added an extra edge to the credibility of the awards.
James McLachlan, editor of Car Design News, said of Polestar’s win:
“The 4 was a clear favourite of fellow designer judges, receiving the highest number of first place votes (eight) in the Production Car Design of the Year award category. The Polestar 4 is distinctive and different, a statement of intent that is tasteful and carefully considered down to the last detail.”
Polestar’s Design Director, Max Missoni, who picked up the award at the Car Design News People Awards event in London on Thursday 7th December, commented:
“We strive for the less obvious, the more intellectual approach. In 2024 we will deliver Polestar 4 – and Polestar 3 – around the world, and so with two more cars added to our line-up we will see a pivotal year for the brand. It’s such an exciting time for us.”
In addition to Polestar’s victorious design, the 208-page Car Design Review X yearbook delves into the details of the other nine shortlisted production car designs. It also highlights the winner and runners-up of the Concept Car Design of the Year award, along with a feature on the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. The yearbook goes further, exploring the potential impacts of artificial intelligence, user experience, and academic training on the future of car designers. It sheds light on emerging global student talent, the timeless art of clay modelling, and showcases bespoke photography, artwork, tactile material inserts, and fold-out illustration sections. With a commitment to both informative and delightful content, this celebratory edition remains editorially independent.
