Pininfarina’s Battista Cinquantacinque: Classic Heritage Meets 1,900-Horsepower Electric Power
Meet the Automobili Pininfarina Battista Cinquantacinque – inspired by a classic 1955 Lancia design, Pininfarina brings retro style into the electric age with this sleek, modern iteration of the Battista.
The 1955 Lancia Florida inspired this curated variant, aptly named the Battista Cinquantacinque (“55” in Italian). The Florida was designed by Battista “Pinin” Farina, the founder of Pininfarina, and stands as one of his most cherished creations.
Automobili Pininfarina’s Chief Design Officer, Dave Amantea, commented;
“This was a truly special and unique opportunity to design a car that pays homage to Pininfarina SpA’s heritage. The color combination of the Battista Cinquantacinque is incredible and shows the vision Battista Farina had when he designed the Lancia Florida back in the early fifties. Not only that, but that very same model helped guide me when creating the PURE Vision design concept, a truly unique vehicle that sets the template for future models from Automobili Pininfarina.”
The automaker detailed how the 1955 Lancia Florida influenced the PURA Vision concept, featuring rear-opening doors and the absence of a B pillar. While the new Pininfarina Battista draws inspiration from the classic design elements of the 1955 model, it delivers thoroughly modern performance.
The Cinquantacinque, like its BEV siblings, is powered by a 120 kWh battery pack and four all-electric motors, delivering a staggering 1,900 horsepower, 2,340 Nm of torque, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0-60 mph) in just 1.86 seconds.
Each new Battista Cinquantacinque will be meticulously hand-built by the Automobili Pininfarina team. It will also feature several unique inscriptions, including one on the passenger door plate and another on the underside of the active rear wing.
Automobili Pininfarina has previously mentioned producing only a handful of its bespoke Battista variants, typically limited to five or fewer units. However, it hasn’t set a specific cap for the Battista Cinquantacinque, opting instead to gauge production based on customer demand. As for the price, that’s still under wraps. But other Battista variants have launched with MSRPs starting at $2.9 million or more.
As Automobili Pininfarina embraces its storied past while propelling into the electric future, the Battista Cinquantacinque stands as a testament to the fusion of classic design and cutting-edge innovation. With performance that redefines the electric supercar and bespoke craftsmanship that honours its heritage, the Cinquantacinque is set to be a modern legend. As production scales to meet demand, expect this iconic blend of tradition and technology to make waves in the world of automotive excellence.
