Paythru and Visa launch new partnership for fleet EV charging

New Paythru x Visa EV charging payment platform looks to break down barriers to fleet EV adoption
  • EV charging payment platform, Paythru, has teamed up with Visa to launch a new ‘flexible fleet wallet’ that aims to reduce friction within the fleet charging experience.
  • The partnership will allow EV fleet operators to have far more flexibility over where their drivers charge.
  • Unlike traditional fuel or charge cards, which can only be used at specified networks, this solution will allow drivers to charge through the fleet wallet at any charge point which accepts Visa.

Paythru and Visa look to break down barriers to fleet EV adoption

With this new white-label platform opening the opportunity for managers to easily control the charging of their entire fleet at all chargers that take Visa payments, it could help break down a significant barrier to EV adoption among business fleets.

The platform combines Visa’s global payments network with Paythru’s orchestration layer, bringing together data from multiple charging networks into a single interface. This will give full visibility of spend across vehicles, locations, and drivers. This is also backed with controls on when and where the charging wallet can be used, along with how much can be spent on it. This will give fleet managers significantly more oversight on their charging operations compared to the use of conventional business debit or credit cards.

For the drivers themselves, the experience is deliberately simple. Charging can be paid for via a card or embedded app, with transactions happening in the background. There’s no need to collect receipts or submit expenses, and pricing is handled automatically before a session begins. In effect, it removes much of the day-to-day hassle that can still come with running an electric fleet.

Richard Campion, Head of Fleet and Mobility at Visa Europe, commented:

“This partnership enables a flexible fleet wallet that works wherever Visa cards are accepted, while giving fleet operators the control, visibility, and reliability they need to manage EV charging at scale. Together, with solutions such as Visa-enabled fleet 2.0 payment cards, we’re removing the friction of closed-loop systems and helping fleets transition to electric with confidence.”

Keith Brown, founder and CEO of Paythru, added:

“As EV charging becomes central to fleet operations, payments move from being a back-office function to a strategic capability. This partnership equips fleet operators with the infrastructure to offer charging as part of their mobility service, under their own brand, without the complexities or constraints of traditional payment systems.

The partnership with Visa is a major enabler of Paythru’s fleet strategy, which is all about empowering fleet operators and mobility platforms to own their charging payment ecosystem.”
