- Octopus Energy Group’s EV leasing business, Octopus Electric Vehicles, has announced that it will soon expand into Germany, opening up the opportunity for all-in-one EV leasing to millions more people living in the heart of the European automotive industry.
- So far, Octopus Electric Vehicles only operates in the UK, with this move marking a significant expansion for the firm.
- Octopus Electric Vehicles will also bring vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging offers to Germany, marking a similar proposition currently being offered to its UK customers.
Octopus Electric Vehicles enters Germany
Energy provider Octopus Energy has already launched in Germany, already boasting 800,000-plus customers, with the next step being the expansion of the Octopus Electric Vehicles business into the country.
Much like what has been offered to UK customers since its launch back in 2018, this expansion will allow German drivers to combine their energy tariff, electric car, home charger, and access to the Octopus Electroverse roaming network under one bundle, simplifying the EV transition. By switching to the EV-specific Intelligent Octopus smart tariff, Octopus Electric Vehicles estimates that German customers could save up to €450 a year in EV charging costs by scheduling recharging to take place during the cheapest and greenest hours of energy.
Those potential savings could go further. In the UK, Octopus Electric Vehicles recently launched the ‘Power Pack Bundle’, bundling together a V2G-capable BYD EV with a V2G home charger and energy tariff. This allows the potential for drivers to carry out charging at zero-cost, by sending power from the car’s battery back to the grid at peak times of demand. The firm notes that these ‘same innovations’ surrounding V2G charging will also reach its German market soon.
Fiona Howarth, Founder and Director of Octopus Electric Vehicles, commented:
“Germany is a powerhouse in the automotive industry, and the home of some of our most-loved EV brands. With shared values around great technology and reliable, trusted service, we wanted our European debut to be in Germany.
Our offer takes the stress out of going electric – we make it simple, affordable, and green. Together with Octopus Energy, we’re bringing German customers cutting-edge technology, the cheapest green power, and the chance to be part of the energy system of the future.”
