Nissan continues to lead the pack with its renewed sustainability commitments

Nissan is an EV trailblazer, having committed to electric from the offset. From the game-changing release of the Leaf, they’ve been building their electric portfolio, and now they have an eye to end ICE production altogether.

Gearing for the future, Nissan has released its Integrated Report 2024

The report details the brand’s progress and commitment to the Ambition 2030 vision. It underscores the company’s strategic focus on sustainability and social responsibility. At the heart of the strategy are two key programs: the Nissan Green Program 2030 (NGP2030) and the Nissan Social Program 2030 (NSP2030).

NGP2030 addresses critical environmental challenges, including climate change and resource dependency. The program has set ambitious targets, such as cutting per-vehicle lifecycle CO2 emissions by 30% and reducing per-vehicle manufacturing CO2 emissions by 52%. Additionally, Nissan plans to lower driving CO2 emissions for new models by 50% in major markets, with a global reduction target of 32.5%. The program also seeks to boost the use of sustainable materials to 40% in key regions.

NSP2030 expands upon Nissan’s previous social initiatives. This program focuses on safety, quality, responsible sourcing, and community engagement. It also emphasises employee empowerment, with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. NSP2030 supports employee resource groups. In enacting these initiatives, Nissan intends to foster a more inclusive and innovative work environment.

These initiatives are integral to Nissan’s broader business strategy, The Arc, which aligns with the long-term Ambition 2030 vision.

Joji Tagawa, Chief Sustainability Officer at Nissan, commented:

“In order to ensure that our progress towards our long-term vision is inclusive of and benefits all of our partners and stakeholders, it is pivotal that we collaborate with them to exchange ideas and opinions and evolve our efforts. Together, we must steadily prepare for the future so we can make the company itself sustainable and, ultimately, contribute to a sustainable society. This is in line with Nissan’s corporate purpose: Driving innovation to enrich people’s lives.”
