Nissan have announced that the Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant based in Mississippi will become a centre for US electric vehicle (EV) production. The company is transforming Nissan Canton with the latest in electric vehicle manufacturing technology to support the production of two all-new, all-electric vehicles.
The investment for electric vehicle production will total $500 million (£367 million/€44 million, preserving and upskilling nearly 2,000 jobs, with production expected to begin in 2025.
Ashwani Gupta, Nissan Motor Corporation Limited CEO, said: “Today’s announcement is the first of several new investments that will drive the EV revolution in the United States.
“Nissan making a strong investment in Canton’s future, bringing the latest technology, training and process to create a truly best-in-class EV manufacturing team.”
The updated Canton facility will become a centre for electric vehicle manufacturing and technology, and represents part of Nissan’s investment of $13.5 billion in its US manufacturing operations.
The plant will be used to build all-new Nissan and Infiniti EV models starting in 2025. These new vehicles are part of the Nissan Ambition 2030, calling for 23 electrified models for the Nissan and Infiniti brands globally, including 15 all-electric vehicles, by 2030

“As Nissan shifts to EV production, the Mississippi team is ready to once again begin production of what will no doubt be some of the best-quality EVs on the market today.”
