Newport City Council provides sustainable options for its residents with Zest partnership
Newport City Council has partnered with Zest to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging across the city. The EV infrastructure provider will install 144 charging points at 77 locations. This project will help make it easier for Newport residents to drive electric cars, especially those without off-street parking.

The initiative is part of the council’s goal to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2030. The council has committed to supporting sustainable transport and improving the city’s carbon footprint.
Councillor Yvonne Forsey, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Biodiversity, celebrated the deal:
“Tackling climate change is a priority for the council, and we have ambitious targets in place to reduce our carbon emissions over the next six years. Partnering with Zest to expand Newport’s EV infrastructure is a crucial step in helping us achieve this goal, as more residents seek ways to reduce their carbon footprint and transition to electric vehicles.”
The project will be funded by Zest, the Welsh government, and the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme.
