New York City’s biggest parking provider to deploy 5,000 EV chargers

  • Icon Parking, the largest parking facilities operator in New York City, with over 200 separate locations, has partnered with Invisible Urban Charging, to bring over 5,000 individual EV chargers to the city.
  • The partnership comes after Hudson Valley Parking Trust’s recent acquisition of Icon Parking.
  • Invisible Urban Charging (IUC) will offer up its charging-as-a-service model, helping meet growing demand for EV chargers in the area.

NYC set for large public EV charger growth

With approximately 3,000 publicly accessible chargers already in the city, this partnership will significantly grow the city’s charging infrastructure, hopefully encouraging EV uptake – with around 30,000 EVs currently on New York City’s streets. By allowing easy access to install public chargers in a wide range of locations within NYC, thanks to Icon Parking’s significant reach, it couldn’t come at a more crucial time, with the city is set to see a significant increase in demand for EV charging.

EV ownership in NYC has rose 660% in the past five years, and the city has aimed for 400,000 drivers to make the switch to EVs by 2030, to meet NYC’s carbon neutrality goals. IUC already offers its turnkey charging solution, which simply charges sites a flat monthly fee in return for end-to-end installation and maintenance of chargers, to other parking providers, as well as malls, supermarkets, and accommodation providers, just to name a few. Time will tell whether this solution will also be adopted by other parking firms in the city, in the future.

Jerry Skillett, Chairman and CEO of Hudson Valley Parking Trust, commented on the partnership:

“Our collaboration with IUC on deploying 5,000 EV chargers is a massive step towards providing the service that New Yorkers want and sets ICON Parking apart from all others. This deployment further enhances the proven relationship we have with Jake and the team at IUC, the global leaders in the EV space.”

Nigel Broomhall, CEO of Invisible Urban Charging, added:

“This partnership is a game-changer for New York City. Even with the premium placed on space in New York City, building out a robust EV charging infrastructure is critical to meet a growing demand from increasing EV ownership in the city.”
