New long-range Tesla Model 3 gains record high range of 436 miles

  • Hot on the heels of Tesla’s updated long-range Model Y variant, the EV manufacturer has announced a similar setup for its saloon sibling, the Tesla Model 3.
  • Whilst the long-range Model 3 was previously available in AWD form, Tesla is now offering a more affordable ‘Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive’ option.
  • With a WLTP rated range of 436 miles, and an efficiency rating of 12.5kWh per 100km, this makes it not only the longest-range Model 3 available, but also the most energy efficient Tesla ever built.

The longest range Tesla Model 3 yet

Prices for this new variant start at £44,990 / €44,990 in Europe, while the existing entry level ‘Rear-Wheel Drive’ Model 3 will continue to be offered, at £39,990. Tesla calculates that with a suitable energy tariff, drivers of this new Model 3 could spend as little as £140 per year on charging, if all charging is carried out at home – which, with a 400 miles-plus range, is even more feasible to a larger group of people. That compares to £1,800 in fuel for an equivalent petrol-powered saloon, if both are driven 10,000 miles a year.

Its higher overall efficiency than the new long-range Model Y, also highlights the benefits of lower slung car shapes when it comes to maximising range, compared to SUVs. Order books for this new long-range variant have already opened, with first deliveries set to begin in November.
