Hyundai has given its popular Kona Electric sports utility vehicle a makeover to offer a better driving experience. The new Kona Electric has undergone bold design upgrades for a pure new look, as well as featuring safety enhancements and an advanced technology package. The new version Kona Electric will be available in early 2021.
The front-end has been reshaped with a sleeker and smoother looking bonnet and new-look closed grille. This combined with vertical inlets on the front bumper, and an air intake in the lower part of the bumper helps with aerodynamics to make the new Kona Electric more efficient.
Hyundai has added new LED front lights to the front bumper panel that feature daytime running lights. The rear lights have been updated too. The new-look Kona Electric, which was available in five colours, now has five additional new choices, so customers will be to choose from 10 finishes.
Hyundai has also updated the interior and technology with a new 10.25-inch digital cluster, while an optional 10.25-inch AVN screen is carried over from the last update. The AVN unit incorporates multimedia and convenience features including Bluelink, Hyundai LIVE Services and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Hyundai also offers its Bluelink upgrade that allows the driver to control their car with their smartphone or voice to make their drive more convenient and enjoyable. The app displays the vehicle’s range and battery state, as well as charging times when plugged into different public or private charging points.
Like its predecessor, the new Kona Electric will be offered with either a 39.2 kWh or 64 kWh battery. The 39.2 kWh version offers a range of up to 189 miles (304km) with a top speed of 96mph (155kph). The larger battery model offers an impressive 300 mile (483km) range with a top speed of 104mph (167kph). With a 100 kW DC fast charger both versions can be charged up to 80 percent in around 47 minutes.
