You’ve likely already heard the name MSI thanks to its presence across the computing landscape, with its range of desktop PCs, laptops and peripherals. However, the Taiwanese giant has recently moved into EV charging, and is now launching a lineup of charging products in the highly competitive UK market.
A familiar hardware name enters the UK EV charging space
MSI EVSE, the company’s EV supply equipment division, has introduced a new three-product range to the UK, made up of the EZgo portable charger, Eco Life Max home socket, and Eco Premium Max home socket.
The £189 EZgo, the most affordable in its range, plugs into a standard wall outlet without the need for an electrician installation, and offers a power output between 1.6kW and 3kW – enough to add around 11 miles of range per hour. The rest of the range is made up by the £449 Eco Life Max Home Socket and the £599 Eco Premium Max, both hardwired wall-mounted units. The two carry a very similar specification list, with 7kW single-phase and 22kW three-phase output, app connectivity, and auto charging, with the only difference being a five-inch display on the Eco Premium Max compared to a more basic LED indicator on the Eco Life Max.
Both Eco models are also listed as approved for the government’s OZEV chargepoint grant, which allows flat owners and renters with private off-street parking to claim back 75% of the cost of buying and installing a charger, up to £500.
In addition to selling these three products directly through its online store, MSI will also sell its two Eco chargers through British retailer Argos, which already stocks a growing selection of EV chargers from brands such as Anker, Humax, and Ring.
Kevin Yang, General Manager of MSI UK, commented:
“The UK is moving quickly towards zero-emission transport, and drivers and building owners need charging they can trust. A charger lives outdoors, plugged in and often unattended overnight, so we lead with protection. The EZgo has seven built-in safety mechanisms and a three-year warranty behind it. The Eco Series is listed for UK chargepoint grants from day one, which shows our hardware already meets the standard this market expects.”
