- UK retail chain Marks & Spencer (M&S) is adding more electric truck units to its delivery and logistics fleet, in a new partnership with commercial vehicle contract hire specialists, Vertellus.
- Two Renault rigid electric trucks have joined the M&S fleet on Vertellus’ twelve-month ‘EV Discovery Programme’.
- The two vehicles will deliver goods to M&S stores across London, allowing for low emission local journeys.
M&S teams up with Vertellus to expand its electric truck delivery fleet
The two vehicles being supplied to M&S on a twelve-month basis are Renault Trucks’ E-Tech D rigid models, with each of these being outfitted with box bodies and tail-lifts. Battery capacity for each truck stands at 211kWh, giving a real world range of around 124 miles. All these combined make the two trucks the perfect choice for inter-London delivery routes.
Vertellus’ EV discovery programme offers a new route into wider EV adoption for fleets. For a fixed cost including the vehicle, maintenance, and support for twelve months, it creates an opportunity for businesses to trial EVs under specific routes, with the scope of a wider rollout following that initial discovery programme.
The new trucks join a growing number of electric trucks within the M&S fleet. The retailer already has a number of full-sized Renault E-Tech T models in operation, along with three electric refrigerated rigid trucks. These vehicle changes are helping the retailer towards its goal of achieving net zero across its value chain by 2040.
Rhian Burrell, Managing Director at Vertellus, commented:
“We’re proud to be working with M&S on their decarbonisation journey, partnering closely to make fleet electrification practical, measurable and commercially viable. Supporting M&S in the next phase of its electrification journey demonstrates how our EV Discovery Programme removes complexity and risk while delivering immediate carbon savings and valuable insight, proving that zero emission logistics works today, even in demanding urban environments.”
