- MINI has teased photos of a prototype John Cooper Works model, using the latest MINI’s EV platform.
- With a production version arriving later this year, it’ll mark the first time the prestigious JCW badge has been used on a fully-electric car – with the badge being reserved for only the hottest and fastest MINIs.
- This ‘John Cooper Works EPROtotype’ concept will be revealed to the public at The Goodwood Festival of Speed, next week.
The arrival of the electric MINI JCW gets closer
Whilst MINI already offers an electric sports car in the form of the MINI Cooper SE, the electric JCW, which is rumoured to go on sale later this year, will be the fastest electric model from the brand so far. While still in development, the manufacturer has revealed the ‘John Cooper Works EPROtotype‘, giving us some idea of what we can expect from the final product.
MINI hasn’t provided any specific performance figures for the prototype or the final model, simply noting that the JCW will have an ‘advanced electric powertrain’. However, with the car going up the Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb next week, you’ll be able to judge for yourself how fast the future JCW looks. For reference, the fastest MINI EV so far, the Cooper SE, has an already impressive 0-62mph time of 6.7 seconds, from a 218hp electric motor. We can expect this JCW to be a significant cut above those figures, particularly if previous JCW-branded models are anything to go by.
