Michigan embraces the future as AT&T and Voltpost turn lampposts into charge points

  • AT&T and Voltpost are working together to improve electric vehicle charging access across Michigan with IoT connectivity.
  • Voltpost retrofits existing lampposts into modular EV chargers, making the deployment process faster and more cost-effective.
  • The partnership supports AT&T’s target to reduce CO₂ emissions by 1 billion metric tons by 2035.

AT&T and Voltpost partner to expand public EV charging in Michigan

AT&T and Voltpost are teaming up to expand EV charging in Michigan. The new partnership will add Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity to Voltpost’s EV charging stations across Metro Detroit.

Voltpost retrofits existing lampposts, turning them into modular EV charging stations. This method follows ubitricity’s comparable workflow in the UK. Therefore, it’s a tried and tested way of democratizing charging. Voltpost’s solutions allow cities and companies to scale EV access in more places, from parking lots to curbside locations.

“Expanding access to EV charging is key to democratizing electric mobility and advancing the transition to renewable energy. Our collaboration with AT&T enables us to deploy highly connected and convenient EV infrastructure that equips communities with much-needed charging access.”

For AT&T, the collaboration aligns with its sustainability goals. The company’s “gigaton goal” aims to help businesses cut 1 billion metric tons of CO₂ emissions by 2035.

Joe Mosele, Vice President, AT&T Connected Solutions, added:

“We are dedicated to fostering innovation and supporting emerging tech that will shape the transportation sector. As cities move toward a more sustainable future, enabling cities to scale their charging networks with existing infrastructure and advanced connectivity is a game-changer. We look forward to continuing our work with Voltpost and supporting groundbreaking initiatives that propel the industry forward.”

Voltpost has big plans ahead. The company is set to install chargers across Michigan, New York, and Illinois in the coming months, working with AT&T to make emobility more accessible across the US.
