- MG Motor UK has teased photos of an incoming new electric SUV from the brand, which is set to be fully-revealed this spring.
- Called the MGS5, the compact electric SUV will be based on the MG Modular Scalable Platform that is used on the MG4 electric hatchback.
- The MGS5 EV is likely to be the successor to the current MG ZS EV, with the latter seeing heavy discounts in the UK right now.
MG to bring new electric SUV to Europe this year
MG have confirmed that the MGS5 will be revealed this spring – with order books and deliveries likely to follow later in the year.
Like current MG models, the manufacturer is hoping for the MGS5 to continue the brand’s trend of high value EVs compared to rivals. The MGS5 will be marketed as a premium EV that comes loaded with features and technology, but we can still expect the price to be considerably lower than electric alternatives like the Tesla Model Y. Its platform sharing with the MG4, already one of the cheapest electric cars in its respective segment, should help drive down that price too.
Order books for the same model are already open in multiple Asian markets, giving us a glimpse of what the MGS5 EV has to offer. However, specification and battery configurations could vary for European-bound models, so we’ll be hoping to find out more in the imminent future – with MG noting that full details of the MGS5 will be revealed ‘in the coming weeks’.
With the MG ZS EV likely to be replaced by the MGS5 once it goes on sale, MG is currently offering a remarkably heavy discount on the ZS EV in the UK – with the site advertising a £10,000 saving on a new ZS EV, bringing its starting price down to £19,995.
