MG Motor has seen a 76.3 percent year-on-year growth in the UK at the midpoint of 2021, outselling its total 2019 volume by the end of June. A big part of the British carmaker’s performance is down to the sales of its electric vehicles (EVs). These continue to increase and break records for the company.
So far this year, MG has also surpassed a 1.5 percent market share in five separate months. This has been propelled by its incredible all-electric car performance that accounts for 31.4 percent of MG’s sales. This includes MG’s zero-emissions models the MG ZS EV electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) and the MG5 EV electric estate car.
This is an impressive figure for the brand, especially when compared to an industry average of 8.1 percent. This makes MG the fourth biggest electric vehicle brand in the market. MG expects 50 percent of its sales to be electric by the end of 2021.
The company has been successful despite the pandemic and has increased its number of dealers. MG has opened 30 new dealers in the last year bring its total to 130.
Guy Pigounakis, MG commercial director, said: “Mid-year is the perfect time to reflect on our achievements so far in 2021, a year which has seen us constantly outperform the market in what have been some really tough trading conditions.
“As we focus on achieving yet another record year through the second half of 2021, we take huge pride in the fact we have a very focused and engaged dealer network, great product, some class-leading EVs, a strong model range and some incredible results to shout about, not least as one of the nation’s best-loved and best-selling electric car brands.”
