MG launches updated version of the MG5 EV electric car

MG Motor UK will today reveal its new version of the MG5 EV electric estate car. This updated electric vehicle (EV) has a host of new features including significant styling and equipment upgrades.

The physical changes included updates to both the front and rear bumpers of the vehicle. Plus, it now features new LED lights. Together, these give the MG5 EV a slick new look.

In terms of technological updates, it now offers Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) technology. This was first seen on the all-new MG ZS EV launched in November 2021. This means users can power other electric devices using the energy stored in the battery, such as electric bikes, portable heaters and camping equipment.

The new MG5 EV has also received interior design and technology upgrades. This includes a 10.25’’ widescreen infotainment system with upgraded software and is now capable of supporting iSMART connected car functionality through MG’s dedicated smartphone app.

The MG5 EV remains the only pure electric estate car in its sector. It has proved extremely popular for both private and business customers alike, with over 8,000 finding homes since it was originally launched in the UK in November 2020.

Guy Pigounakis, MG Motor UK commercial director, said: “The MG5 EV has quickly established a strong following as a practical, affordable and efficient estate car and we’re seeking to build upon that success by offering customers an even more attractive, compelling design as well as a generous range of technology upgrades.

“The MG ‘Get More’ philosophy is a key part of our approach – we believe our customers should get more and as standard – and we are confident that the new MG5 EV strongly reflects this.”

The new MG5 EV makes its UK debut today at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This will be alongside a host of new electric vehicles including those from ElectraMeccanica, Lotus with its new Eletre Hyper SUV and Polestar with a development prototype of the Polestar 5.
