- UK forecourt operator Motor Fuel Group (MFG) has announced the completion of the rollout of rapid EV chargers across the Morrisons supermarket network, following an earlier partnership signed between the two firms.
- MFG’s ‘EV Power’ charging brand is now active at nearly 300 Morrisons supermarkets across the UK, totalling over 580 rapid charging bays, granting a wide number of new opportunities for supermarket customers and passing-by EV drivers to charge back up.
- By the end of 2025, MFG hopes for its EV Power network to have 1,900 bays in operation, which would make it the largest rapid/ultra-rapid charging network in the UK.
Morrisons teams up with MFG to provide its public charging infrastructure
These chargers, which can typically bring an EV back up to full charge in 45 minutes (around the same time a weekly shop takes), are part of MFG’s wider strategy to provide rapid charging across a variety of locations – including its own fuel forecourts. By 2030, MFG will also open over 100 ultra-rapid hubs on the Morrisons network – these are charging locations with up to eight bays, helping meet increasingly strong demand on public chargers as UK EV sales hit record highs.
Supermarkets across the UK are already a key public charging spot, with their various proximities to both residential areas, major roads, and city centres. Whilst supermarkets such as Morrisons and Tesco have partnered with existing CPOs, one notable outlier is Sainsbury’s – who launched its own in-house CPO, Sainsbury’s Smart Charge.
William Bannister, CEO of MFG, commented:
“Completing this rollout of rapid charging bays across the Morrisons network in just five months is a testament to our team’s expertise and commitment. We are delivering on our promise to provide the infrastructure communities need to embrace electric vehicles, while continuing to invest in a best-in-class experience for all our customers.”
Daisy Cooper, MP for St Albans, added:
“As a St Albans based business, I’m delighted to see MFG complete their installation of 1,000 ultra rapid EV charging bays across its sites nationwide. This is a significant investment in the UK EV charging sector and will give greater availability to drivers and reassurance that there are public charging points within a short driver anywhere in the UK.
Seeing drivers who live in and pass through St Albans plug in their electric vehicles whilst stopping for a rest and a coffee, is great news for the environment, and local employment. I’m looking forward to seeing how the roll out continues in the coming years.”
