Mercedes-Benz launches first EV charging hub in North America
Mercedes-Benz has launched its first EV charging hub in North America, with more to open across Texas and the Southeast by the end of 2023.
Located at the headquarters of Mercedez-Benz USA in Sandy Springs, Georgia, the hub is the first of a $1 billion joint venture with MN8 energy. The scope of the partnership is set to deliver 2,500 chargers, across 400 locations in North America by the end of the decade.
Once complete, the Mercedes-Benz charging network will exclusively be powered by 100% clean energy. Moreover, the network will be open access for all EV drivers and offer CCS1 and NACS connectivity. As more OEMs integrate both connectivity types, the ability to charge through CCS1 and NACS is vital to market success.
“In North America, our strategy is clear: focusing on where EV drivers are and where they are going to enhance the North American EV charging map while setting new standards for quality and customer experience. These efforts will pave the way for greater EV adoption here in North America and around the world.”
– Franz Reiner | Chairman of the Board of Management | Mercedez-Benz AG
ChargePoint offers charging speeds of up to 500kW
“With the deployment of Express Plus Power Link 2000, ChargePoint is setting a new standard by offering sustained, ultra-high-speed charging for all EV drivers. We congratulate Mercedes-Benz on the launch of their HPC NA network, and we look forward to boosting the availability of fast, reliable public DC charging on North American roads.”
– Rick Wilmer | COO | ChargePoint
As part of the opening of the new Mercedes-Benz charging hub, ChargePoint also unveiled its first large scale deployment of its new Express Plus Lower Link 2000 DC fast charging platform.
Express Plus is a modular DC fast charging platform featuring Power Block architecture. The use of liquid-cooled cables and bespoke hardware developed for reliable charging, Express Plus sustain high charging speeds of up to 500kW. Such speeds surpass existing rates of charge in electric vehicles, futureproofing the site.
Notably, the Express Plus ultra-fast platform can charge two vehicles simultaneously at exceptionally high speeds from the same charging station.
