Meet the BYD SEAL: BYD’s latest European release

  • BYD introduces advanced all-electric sports saloon, BYD SEAL, to the European market.
  • Innovative features include Cell-to-Body tech, Blade Battery, and dynamic design.
  • Deliveries begin in Q4 2023, signalling BYD’s leadership in EV innovation.

The BYD SEAL is a cutting-edge all-electric sports saloon that’s set to cement BYD’s place in Europe. This model introduces a host of features with performance, safety, and efficiency at the forefront.

What’s beneath the surface?

The foundation of the BYD SEAL lies in its state-of-the-art e-Platform 3.0. That’s BYD’s exclusively engineered platform dedicated to electric vehicles. What sets the BYD SEAL apart is its implementation of Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology.

CTB is an engineering breakthrough that integrates the battery into the vehicle’s structure. This integration results in exceptional levels of safety, torsional rigidity, driving dynamics, and space utilization.

What are Blade Batteries?

BYD’s proprietary Blade Battery adds another layer of innovation to the BYD SEAL. BYD designed this cobalt-free battery technology exclusively for EV efficiency. Its unique design features 172 elongated cells that resemble blades, and it utilizes lithium iron phosphate as the cathode material. The result is a battery that offers increased safety, durability, and thermal stability compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries.

How does that contribute to performance?

The BYD SEAL offers two powerful drivetrain options, both featuring an 82.5 kWh battery capacity. The ‘Design’ version boasts rear-wheel drive with a power output of 230 kW. That means it accelerates from 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds, with a WLTP range of up to 354 miles.

The ‘Excellence-AWD’ version boasts both front and rear electric motors. That delivers a total power output of 390 kW, propelling the car from 0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds. The WLTP range is only slightly lower at 323 miles.

The e-Platform 3.0 enhances the BYD SEAL’s driving dynamics with its low centre of gravity. The vehicle also features independent suspension with double wishbones at the front and a five-link rear suspension.

What about extra features?

Safety and connectivity are paramount in BYD’s philosophy. The SEAL comes with an array of advanced driver assistance systems and smart connectivity features. A 15.6-inch rotatable screen with intelligent voice control and seamless smartphone integration along with a 10.25-inch full instrument LCD panel. Safety features include Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assistance, Adaptive Cruise Control, and more.

When will I see it?

European customers can anticipate dealer deliveries of the BYD SEAL starting in Q4 2023. The BYD SEAL is set to make a significant impact on the European electric vehicle market, and further establish BYD as a global force in the EV industry.
