Lucid Air Dream Edition R is the longest-range electric car ever with 520 miles (837km) from a single charge

Lucid Motors have announced that their Lucid Air Dream Edition R electric vehicle (EV) has delivered an outstanding 520 miles (837km) of range from a single charge. In the process, it has achieved a record-breaking official EPA range rating and makes it the first electric car ever to cover over 500 miles (805km) of range.

This range has beaten its closest competitors by over 100 miles (161km) and means it’s possible to drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco without stopping to charge up.

Peter Rawlinson, Lucid Group CEO, said: “I’m delighted that our Lucid Air Dream Edition Range has been officially accredited with a range of 520 miles (805km) by the EPA, a number I believe to be a new record for any EV. Crucially, this landmark has been achieved by Lucid’s world-leading, in-house EV technology, not by simply installing an oversize battery pack.”

“Our race-proven 900V battery and BMS technology, our miniaturised drive units, coupled with our Wunderbox technology endow Lucid Air with ultra-high efficiency, enabling it to travel more miles from less battery energy. The next generation EV has truly arrived.”

This range is a paradigm shift of what’s possible and marks a massive change in the way people will perceive electric cars. The myth of range anxiety is well and truly blown out of the car park with this news.

Peter Rawlinson, Lucid Group CEO, added: “Improvements in efficiency will enable widespread mass adoption. We develop all our technology in-house, and we have a relentless focus on efficiency.

“Our approach is based on the concept of ‘smart range,’ going incredible distance on a single charge, carrying the smallest possible battery packs.”

Multiple Lucid Air models have received their official EPA range ratings, including the Dream Edition Performance and Grand Touring versions on both 19-inch and 21-inch wheels. This positions Lucid Air models in the top six spots for overall EPA range ratings among all electric vehicles, as well as the highest MPGe ratings in the Large vehicle class.
