Li-Cycle expands in Europe with major battery recycling partnerships in Germany

Li-Cycle, a leading lithium-ion battery recycling company, is making big moves in Europe. In the last week, the Canadian company announced two major partnerships in Germany. These agreements will help expand its battery recycling network and strengthen its role in the electric vehicle (EV) industry.

The first deal is with a premium global EV manufacturer, as yet unnamed. This partnership will supply Li-Cycle’s Germany Spoke with battery materials from an EU-based facility. The second agreement is with a high-performance, luxury EV brand. This deal focuses on recycling battery manufacturing scrap from within Germany. Both agreements bring a steady supply of feedstock to Li-Cycle’s recycling facility.

Li-Cycle’s expansion is a big step toward a more sustainable battery supply chain. Recycling old batteries helps reduce waste and recover valuable lithium, nickel, and cobalt.

Ajay Kochhar, Li-Cycle President and CEO, commented:

“We are excited to continue strengthening our partnerships with leading global EV OEMs. This exclusive recycling agreement secures a further quality supply of recycling feedstock for our Germany Spoke. This is also indicative of our position as a preferred recycling partner who can process lithium-ion battery materials sustainably and efficiently. As we advance our work on establishing a financially accretive Spoke business, we will continue to provide top-tier service and support for our key partners and customers.”

Li-Cycle has already worked with 13 major EV manufacturers and 15 battery producers.

With these new partnerships, Li-Cycle is solidifying its position as a key player in Europe’s EV industry. Its growth in Germany marks an important step in the company’s journey. What’s more, recent US funding is propelling the recycler to new heights on a global scale.
