Kuehne+Nagel UK’s new eHGV fleet makes use of Milence charging hub

  • Global logistics firm Kuehne+Nagel’s UK branch has been trialling an eHGV fleet since earlier this year, as a participant in the UK government’s Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator Programme.
  • In partnership with Milence, Kuehne+Nagel’s eHGV fleet is now using Milence’s first UK hub, located at the Able Humber Port, as a key part of their electric operations.
  • The two firms are hoping to show the endless potential of electric trucks, in an effort to further boost adoption.

Milence’s recent Immingham eHGV charging hub gets put to work

The hub located at the Able Humber Port in Immingham opened earlier this year, and is already forming a crucial part of Kuehne+Nagel’s electric operations, with the port being a key entry point for cargo in and out of the UK. Charging speed currently stands at 400kW, allowing electric HGVs to be fully charged in between 1 and 2.5 hours, depending on battery capacity. The installation of Megawatt chargers further down the line will bring those recharge speeds down to under 45 minutes, allowing recharging to strategically take place during mandated driver breaks.

Under the ongoing partnership between Milence and Kuehne+Nagel, the two firms have agreed to collaborate on exchanging operational information, to help guide key locations for future eHGV charging hubs. The duo are also hoping to shift the focus on electric trucks to their possibilities, rather than their limitations – the latter of which are vanishing by the day, thanks to improvements in battery technology and growing charging infrastructure.

Kate Broome, Sustainability and Social Impact Director at Kuehne+Nagel UK, commented:

“Alongside supportive measures to scale depot charging – such as faster access to grid connections and enabling policy measures – we also need high-performance, reliable and cost-effective public charging hubs. We’re proud to be among the early adopters using Milence’s hub, proving that electric heavy trucks are not just the future – they’re already here.”

Roel Vissers, CCO at Milence, added:

Electric road transport is no longer a future ambition – it’s happening now. With over 20 operational hubs across Europe, our first green corridors are emerging and the shift to sustainable logistics is gaining momentum. To scale this transformation, utilisation is key. At Milence, we collaborate closely with key stakeholders across the transport sector.

Partnerships with pioneers like Kuehne+Nagel are essential to shaping the infrastructure and services the industry needs. Our hubs are designed as safe, comfortable charging stops that support both drivers and fleets on their electric journeys. The transition won’t happen overnight – but by working together, we’re moving closer to a road transport system that is not only sustainable but also economically viable.”
