Kia EV9  electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) undergoes final technical testing ahead of 2023 debut

Kia continues towards its electric future and has revealed that its new EV9 electric vehicle (EV) is undergoing its final intensive testing program. We first brought you details of the new EV9 at the end of last year when it was revealed at AutoMobility LA. 

This new electric SUV will become the brand’s flagship model and will make its world debut in 2023. The EV9 will follow in the footsteps of the hugely popular Kia EV6 and Kia believe it will help to revolutionise the large electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment. This new electric car has been developed over a period of 44 months.

KIA says the new EV9 will set new standards in design, performance, range, driving dynamics, technology and comfort. Every facet of the EV9 is currently being pushed to the limits of durability at Kia’s global Namyang R&D centre in Korea.

During this final testing phase, the EV9 is relentlessly subjected to a gruelling verification program. Testing on a four-wheel-drive climbing hill and rough terrain tracks, as well as deep-water wading, will ensure maximum reliability even in the most challenging conditions. 

Kia’s high-speed, handling and low-friction tracks place every element of the EV9’s performance and road holding under the strictest scrutiny. At the same time, ‘Belgian pavé’ cobbled road surfaces enable Kia’s engineers to subject the EV9’s ride comfort and build quality to the harshest possible trials. 

In addition to the test programme at Namyang R&D centre, like every Kia model, the EV9 has also been subjected to a punishing testing regimen in locations all over the globe. This tests the vehicle in extreme climates to see how it copes preparing it for all eventualities.

It features the brand’s ‘Opposites United’ new design language and has been developed on the company’s advanced Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This is the same electric platform used on the EV6 and Hyundai’s IONIQ 5. 

Kiahave blended a modern angular exterior profile with a sleek interior space that features state-of-the-art tech. A low gravity side body allows for maximum use of space, with ease of entry and exit. 

As for practical performance, it’s expected to deliver a driving range of up to 300 miles (483km). It also features ultra-fast charging technology with a 350kW charger that can charge the battery up to 80 percent in 20-30 minutes.

We love the combination of the angular design, which would keep Postman Pat happy, blended with modern aerodynamic features. We look forward to seeing it in the flesh and taking it for a test drive.
