- The Kia EV6 has seen over £6,000 taken off its base starting price, after the manufacturer introduced a lower-capacity battery option for its entry-level ‘Air’ trim level.
- With the EV6 previously starting at a minimum of £45,585, this has now dropped to £39,235 – bringing increased price competitiveness against similarly-sized Chinese newcomers like the CHANGAN DEEPAL S07 and Leapmotor C10.
- With reduced motor power, Kia says this new entry-level EV6 will also be cheaper to insure – which should aid its attractiveness for both private customers and fleets.
Kia reduces the starting price of its EV6 by over £6,000
The smaller battery pack of this new model level stands at 63kWh, compared to the 84kWh battery which is standard fit across the rest of the EV6 lineup. Despite its smaller capacity, it still maintains a relatively impressive WLTP combined range of 265 miles. With the average EV driver in the UK travelling around 168 miles a week, this smaller battery option still makes perfect sense for many consumers – particularly those able to charge up at home. Being based on the same 800-volt architecture as other EV6s, it still offers an ultra-rapid charge time of up to 350kW to fill in for that lower range on long-distance journeys.
The smaller battery pack has also reduced kerb weight to 1,955 kilograms, which should also lead to improved energy efficiency – further increasing the attractiveness of this particular model for cost-conscious customers.
Specification remains identical to the larger battery capacity ‘Air’, with standard equipment including smart cruise control, LED headlights, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. This shows that the £6,000-plus reduction has come solely from the smaller capacity battery pack installed. With this new lower price point, the EV6 has become a serious contender for one of the best value electric cars, matching the price of many Chinese electric SUVs on the market. The Model Y, which remains Europe’s best-selling EV, and a key rival of the EV6, remains at a £44,990 – over £5,000 more expensive than this new entry-level EV6.
Order books for the new lower-cost model have opened now, with the first deliveries to customers expected to begin later this month.
