- Enfield Council is trialling Kerbo Charge’s through-pavement system, reducing costs for drivers without driveways and supporting EV adoption.
- This trial is the first in a London borough, following West Berkshire’s successful implementation of the solution.
- The system offers lower at-home charging rates compared to public points and may expand if successful.
Kerbo Charge secures its latest trial as Enfield Council seeks to bring on-street charging at home prices to London
Kerbo Charge gains another massive trial in its mission to make home charging accessible to all. Enfield Council is the latest local authority to adopt the innovative through-pavement charging solution. The system, as seen on Dragons’ Den, saves drivers without driveways up to £1,100 annually compared to public charging.
Cllr Rick Jewell, Cabinet Member for Transport and Waste at Enfield Council, said:
“We are delighted to be working with Kerbo Charge on such a ground-breaking trial which is the first of its kind for a London borough.
I hope the pilot scheme is a huge success, as it will encourage those thinking of purchasing an EV to do so, as the cost-effective technology will provide residents with a safe and convenient way to charge their vehicles and contribute towards a greener Enfield.”
At-home charging costs as little as 7.5p per kilowatt-hour, as opposed to between 57p and 80p at public charge points. So, the 40% of the country without a driveway are at a significant disadvantage with an EV. This solution levels the playing field by allowing anyone to charge on ‘at home’ rates. Enfield is the first borough in London to trial this idea.
Enfield resident, Chris Richmond, said:
“With the Kerbo Charge solution, I finally have the confidence to sell my petrol car and switch to electric. It’s a game-changer for those of us who live in areas without off-street parking. Using on street public charging was making the switch difficult as the charge costs were expensive, but we can now make the most of cheaper green energy at home”
If the trial is successful, the Council will expand Kerbo Charge throughout the borough. Residents interested in the program can express their interest by emailing fwaychannel@enfield.gov.uk.
