- Renault Group’s mobility unit, Mobilize, has launched a new ultra-rapid EV charging network for France, called Mobilize Fast Charge.
- With 16 individual charging stations already online in France, Mobilize has partnered with Finnish fast charging specialists Kempower to help expand the network further and faster across the country.
- Charging hubs on the network will be located both close to Renault dealerships and on major motorways, designed to serve not only French EV drivers but EV drivers making long distance trips across the continent.
Mobilize and Kempower partner to build Mobilize Fast Charge
On top of the 16 charging stations already live, another 40 are also under construction or awaiting connection to the grid. Each hub will consist of six of Kempower’s ‘Kempower Satellite’ charging units, with a maximum power output of 320kW – enough to handle even the fastest charging EVs on the market.
Currently in France, just 10% of its public chargers are classed as ultra-rapid (above 100kW). The new Mobilize Fast Charge network hopes to change that, while also in accordance with France’s public policy on public charging, which has set a target to have 400,000 publicly accessible charging stations by 2030.
Pierre-Emmanuel Gau, Sales Director for South & West Europe for Kempower, commented:
“We’re delighted to be working with Renault, a French carmaker with a long history, which is now in a new phase. Renault has committed wholeheartedly to the EV transition, not only by producing industry-leading electric cars, but by supporting the development of the infrastructure necessary for the transition to be a widespread success.”
Anne-Cécile Bonneville, Fast Charge Director for Mobilize, added:
“As we’ve been identifying charging locations, it has been clear that compactness of the infrastructure is essential. With limited space but a requirement for plenty of fast charging capacity, Kempower’s solution stood out as having a strong size footprint to charging power ratio. As we strive towards the electrification of mobility, efficiency and reliability will be essential, as will the accessibility of charging for EV drivers. That’s why we have chosen high-quality, high-power chargers which work effectively for the charge sites and for the customers that use them. We’re optimistic that the Mobilize Fast Charge network will play an important role in helping EV drivers to take long journeys with confidence.”
