Jeep Recon revealed: A fully-electric take on the Wrangler

Jeep unveils the Recon EV, an electric car which is purpose built for off roading. Is this the fully electric Jeep Wrangler we've been waiting for?
  • Jeep has revealed the Jeep Recon, the first fully-electric vehicle from the brand to gain its ‘Trail Rated’ badge, with this new model passing Jeep’s own rigorous tests that prove its off-road capabilities.
  • The Jeep Recon will initially launch in North America in early 2026, with a starting price of $65,000 USD – with a European launch coming later in the year.
  • This new EV will become the only fully-electric SUV with removable doors, and is inspired off the long-running ICE-powered Jeep Wrangler model.

Jeep brings the Wrangler into the electric era with the new Jeep Recon

The Jeep Recon will become the next fully-electric vehicle released by the brand, following the Wagoneer S SUV, launched last year. With its strong off-road capabilities, it’ll go up against other more purposeful electric SUVs currently on the market, such as the Rivian R1S. So far, the number of 4×4 electric cars offering true go-anywhere capabilities still remains low, with us yet to see the release of cars such as the all-electric Range Rover.

This new model is powered by front and rear electric motors, each rated for 250kW of power, giving the Recon an impressive overall horsepower 650 horsepower – and plenty torque to boot, all-important for those off-road trails. Much like many previous Jeep Wranglers, this new model will have the option to remove all doors, rear quarter glass, and swing gate glass, making this a very unique proposition on the EV market.

The Jeep Recon will also be one of the first Stellantis EVs to adopt a NACS charging connector, in North American markets – with Stellantis set to pivot its entire North American EV lineup to the increasingly popular standard. This will grant the Recon access to a growing number of charge points on the Tesla Supercharger network.

Bob Broderdorf, CEO of Jeep, commented:

“The 2026 Jeep Recon is a bold step forward for the brand, an all-electric SUV that stays true to our core values of freedom, adventure and capability. It’s trail-rated, purpose-built and ready to take Jeep enthusiasts into the future without compromising the legendary performance they expect. With the Jeep Recon, we’re proving that electrification isn’t just compatible with off-road excellence, it can elevate it, delivering instant torque, precision control and a quieter, more connected driving experience that’s uniquely Jeep.”
