Jaguar EV prototype spotted, as brand moves to all-electric future

  • Just weeks after Jaguar discontinued the sale of all ICE-powered vehicles in its home territory, the UK, the manufacturer has teased photos of its second EV.
  • The photos hint at a four-door grand tourer, which will rival premium electric cars such as the Porsche Taycan and Lotus Emeya.
  • With Jaguar’s first electric car, the I-Pace, soon to be discontinued worldwide, this new EV marks a fresh start for the brand – and its success will be crucial.

Jaguar teases its next EV

This EV is an important turning point in JLR’s Jaguar division, as from 2025, the brand will become a fully-electric brand, offering no fossil fuel-powered alternatives – making it one of the first legacy manufacturers to do so. These ‘spy’ shots of the new EV wrapped in a prototype camouflage, which were actually released by Jaguar, come ahead of the model’s full reveal – which is set to occur on the 2nd of December, at Miami’s Art Week.

These shots give several clues away on this Jag EV’s positioning in the market, ahead of its full reveal. Its long wheelbase indicates a grand tourer, luxury-type vehicle, so we’d expect to see a battery capacity that is competitive with the longest range EVs. Additionally, a close up of the large front brake callipers hints that the electric motors driving this EV will have some serious power reserves – perhaps, even enough to compete with four-door performance EVs like the Porsche Taycan. Previously, Jaguar has hinted at this car costing somewhere around the £100,000 / $125,000 mark.

Once revealed next month, and set to go on sale in 2026, this EV will be one of a trio of premium Jaguar EVs to be revealed in the near future. Jaguar will also be hoping to grab market share in the ever more popular electric SUV sector, with the other two models rumoured to be a two-door coupe and a large SUV. The latter could be produced at JLR’s Halewood facility, which is currently undergoing investment to allow it to produce ‘electric luxury SUVs’.
