InstaVolt introduces additional bonus to the Winchester Superhub with even lower charging rates

InstaVolt has announced a new lower charging rate at its flagship site in Winchester. From midday on Thursday, 17 April 2025, drivers using the InstaVolt App can charge their electric vehicles at just 65p per kWh. That makes it one of the cheapest pay-as-you-go ultra-rapid charging sites in the UK. The off-peak rate of 50p per kWh—available from 7pm to 7am daily—remains in place.

The Winchester Superhub is InstaVolt’s biggest and most advanced charging location to date. It’s based just off the A34 and close to the M3, making it a convenient stop for drivers heading to the South Coast, Midlands, or North.

The site offers 44 ultra-rapid chargers, with speeds up to 160kW. It also includes 4 extended bays for vans and long vehicles, 4 drive-through bays for larger or towing vehicles, and 3 accessible bays for Blue Badge holders.

Solar and battery is the heart of modern charging

The Superhub features an on-site solar farm with 870 panels, and a battery storage system with 960kW/4MWh capacity. This setup reduces the site’s reliance on the national grid. It also helps keep energy costs stable—even during peak hours. This has been so effective that the hub was fully loaded within a week of opening, and charged without a hitch.

InstaVolt also recently partnered with energy provider OVO to enhance the EV charging experience across the UK. Through the OVO Charge app, drivers can now access InstaVolt’s network of nearly 2,000 rapid chargers, view real-time availability, and benefit from savings of up to 15% with Boost plans.

InstaVolt CEO Delvin Lane commented:

“Our investment in renewable energy and battery storage at Winchester is helping us reduce grid dependence and operate more efficiently.

We’re delighted to be passing those benefits on to drivers. By using the free to use InstaVolt App, customers can access lower rates while supporting a more sustainable future for EV charging.”
