Hyundai takes the lead in EV innovation with R&D investment in Europe

Hyundai Motor Group is expanding its R&D facilities in Europe. The company has two major projects underway: an extended test centre at Nürburgring, and a new Square Campus in the Rhine-Main region.

The Nürburgring facility now has 834 additional square meters. It includes new workshops, laboratories, and high-voltage EV charging stations. Hyundai has been testing vehicles here since 2011, focusing on durability and performance.

Tyrone Johnson, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center, commented:

“This expansion represents a bold step toward securing the infrastructure needed for the future of mobility,” “It reflects our confidence in the growth of the EV sector and our commitment to driving sustainable innovation. This serves as a testament to our road to electrification in Europe.

Electric high-performance vehicles have always been an important part of our DNA. Our expanded facilities at the Nürburgring will allow us to integrate our N-performance with our EV strategy even more seamlessly. Moreover, we will continue to refine conventional engine technologies. The enhanced facilities at the Nürburgring affirm our commitment to electric high-performance vehicles, which have always been a crucial part of our DNA.”

The new Square Campus will open in March 2025. It covers 25,000 square meters and features Europe’s largest four-wheel noise and vibration dynamometer. Engineers will work on EVs, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and infotainment technologies.

Hyundai’s expansion is also eco-friendly. The new campus will use solar panels, heat pumps, and sustainable materials. All in aid of the commitment to achieving zero emissions in Europe by 2035.

In addition, the expansion creates new job opportunities. Engineers in electric powertrains, vehicle dynamics, and ADAS are encouraged to apply.

Hyundai’s expanded R&D facilities are essential for shaping its future in the automotive industry. By investing in innovation and sustainability, the company is paving the way for a successful future in the emobility era.
