- Following in the steps of other luxury car brands such as Jaguar, Genesis Motor plans to rapidly move to an electrified portfolio within its European market.
- In the UK this year, purely petrol and diesel powered models will be sold from existing stock only, before exclusively selling its all-electric G80, GV70, and GV60 models.
- Future hybrid models will also be added to this portfolio in Europe, with the decision underlining Genesis’ position as a luxury marque within the wider Hyundai Motor Group family.
European portfolio goes all in on electrification

The decision also comes soon after the electrified G80, GV70, and GV60 were revised, bringing upgraded batteries, improved range, and longer lists of standard equipment. As well as hybrids joining the future range, the brand also confirmed its commitment to releasing more fully-electric Genesis models in the near future – including the GV60 Magma, a performance electric SUV to give consumers another alternative to EVs like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, Tesla Model Y Performance, and Porsche Macan EV.
With the UK’s 2030 EV mandate and EU’s similar 2035 mandate getting nearer, Genesis Motor’s decision comes at a pivotal time, and it’ll be one to watch to see if other car brands follow. Similarly premium brand, Alfa Romeo, is committed to an all-electric future by 2027. By contrast however, Genesis Motor rival Mercedes-Benz last year pulled back on its plans to have a fully-electrified portfolio by 2030.
Brand Director for Genesis Motor UK, Jonny Miller, commented:
“Since arriving in the UK, Genesis has led the way in premium electrification. As a brand, we’ve established our presence in the markets with award-winning cars and customer service excellence. We’re committed to responding to customer and market feedback, and we’re confident our transition to an electric range, joined by future hybrid models, is the right direction.
Our commitment is to a rich and varied portfolio which includes premium electrified and high-performance drivetrains alongside exciting new segment entries, all tailored for our European customers. With these new products we will see a focused market expansion beyond our current UK, German and Swiss businesses.”
