Ford Power Promise launches in UK, bundling free home charging and charger with new EVs

  • After the OEM already launched a similar scheme for the U.S. EV market last year, Ford UK has today launched its own ‘Ford Power Promise’, in order to further convince buyers who are on the fence about purchasing a fully-electric car from the brand.
  • The scheme includes the offer of a free home charger installation, and up to 10,000 miles worth of home charging credit, with the purchase of a new Ford EV.
  • Buyers will also be offered £500 in cash as an alternative to the free home charger and charging offer.

Ford expands its Power Promise to the UK

In a move that Ford hopes will make it easier for UK drivers to make the switch to electric, the manufacturer has launched a new ‘Ford Power Promise’ that will cover its range of electric consumer cars, including the Explorer, Capri, Puma Gen-E, Mustang Mach-E, E-Tourneo Custom, and E-Tourneo Courier.

The move follows a European consumer survey on EVs carried out by Ford, which found that 25% of buyers discovered higher levels of ‘uncertainty and complexity’ when buying an electric car. Additionally, around one in eight surveyed found it ‘too difficult to arrange charging at home’, while one third believed EVs took too long to charge. Another 30% were also concerned about overall battery life of an EV.

With the new promise, anyone who purchases one of Ford’s electric cars from new will now be offered a free home charger, along with free installation. In addition, they will also be able to benefit from up to 10,000 miles worth of home charging credit. For those able to charge at home every night, this could essentially make the first year of driving free-of-charge when it comes to energy usage. That credit is worth £217 through Octopus’ Intelligent Go tariff, which allows for 7p per kWh overnight charging.

Alongside this deal, Ford’s Power Promise also reiterates the other offerings that come with Ford’s EV range, such as its eight year, 100,000-mile warranty that covers high voltage components and the battery, which should go some way to reassure any concerns from first-time EV buyers. It also highlights Ford’s free-of-charge five year towing assistance, and its five year service plan, along with the access to Ford’s BlueOval app for public charging across various CPOs.

The offer will be available on all eligible new Ford EVs, though customer in Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man will not be part of the offer for free home charging installation and credit.

Lisa Brankin, Chair and Managing Director of Ford UK, commented:

“Switching into an electric vehicle for the first time can be a daunting prospect for some drivers, so Ford have decided to simplify and de-stress the entire ownership experience by launching a one-of-a-kind promise to new electric car buyers. This commitment from Ford aims to entice new buyers into the exciting world of electric vehicles and stimulate additional demand for our freshest-ever lineup of electric passenger cars.”

Alex Schoch, Director of Flexibility at Octopus Energy, added:

“With every electric car that takes the road, we’re getting closer to zero emissions transport – but to reach the finish line, we need to make green driving cheap and accessible. Working together with Ford, we’re able to create a compelling incentive for drivers to make the switch to electric, saving their pocket and the planet at the same time.”
