The Ford Mustang Mach-E has added a perfect five-star double European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) and Green NCAP to its growing list of awards and recognitions.
Ford’s all-new, all-electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) has received maximum five-star ratings in assessments by both the independent vehicle safety authority and the independent initiative that promotes the development of cars that are clean, energy-efficient and not harmful to the environment.
The Mustang Mach-E bears little resemblance to the five-litre muscle car with which it shares its name. The all-electric Mustang Mach-E’s performance in stringent crash testing produced scores of 92 percent for adult and 86 percent for child occupant protection.
The car comes equipped with a centre airbag, deployable bonnet for vulnerable road user protection and a host of advanced driver assistance features, offering high levels of driver support and crash prevention all around.
Standard advanced driver assistance technologies including Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Lane Centring, Pre-Collision Assist with Auto Emergency Braking, and Lane-Keeping System with Blind Spot Assist also contributed to the maximum safety rating. The Mach-E also scored full marks for its lane support technologies.
Powered by a zero-emissions electric powertrain offering up to 379 miles (610km) pure-electric driving range, the record-beating Mustang Mach-E also recorded full marks in clean air and greenhouse gas tests during assessments by Green NCAP. A 94 percent score for energy efficiency included full marks for operation in cold and warm condition laboratory tests.
Once again electric cars are leading the way when it comes to both safety and green credentials. This has also been the case for the Hyundai Kona Electric, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Fiat 500 and Polestar 2, among others.
Stuart Southgate, Ford Europe director of safety engineering, said: “Mustang Mach-E was developed from the ground up as an all-electric vehicle, so we could develop safety and environmental performance into every corner of the all-new design.
“The result is that customers can be confident they’re driving a vehicle that can look after them just as much as it looks after the environment.”
