- EV LIVE at Blenheim Palace is just over a week away, running from Friday 13th of September to Sunday the 15th, allowing attendees to test out a wide range of new EVs on the market, including the Ford Explorer.
- The Ford Explorer is a new EV from the brand, based on the same MEB platform as EVs such as the Volkswagen ID.4: Which indicates a recipe for success.
- With prices for the new electric SUV starting at £39,875 in the UK, the Explorer is set to be a popular option on the market – particularly for families.

The Ford Explorer isn’t a new name on UK soil, with the second-generation American-focused Explorer being only briefly sold on the British market at the turn of the century – partly down to its cumbersome size and gas guzzling appetite. The all-new electric Explorer is a fresh take on the popular marque, but in a smaller electric footprint, with its development and production all taking place within Europe, making it a much more suitable EV for our smaller streets.

Being based on the same underpinnings as EVs like the Volkswagen ID.4 is only a good thing, helping to offer a drivable range of up to 374 miles, while in rear-wheel-drive form, a powerful 282 horsepower electric motor dispatches 0-62mph in just 6.4 seconds – more than adequate, for what will largely be used as a family runabout. You wouldn’t notice its VW origins from the outside, though, with the Explorer’s purposeful shape making it look like a much larger SUV than it really is. That’s not to say its lacking for room on the inside, however, with a large 450 litre boot, and comfortable seating for five.
Ford has also made tweaks underneath to the suspension and damping, to give it an edge over its rivals when it comes to handling and driver involvement – a characteristic also shared with its close relative, the Capri EV. If you’re a keen driver, then, the Explorer might just be the £40k electric SUV to consider. To find out for yourself, the Ford Explorer will be available for test drives at EV LIVE.

Returning for its third year, EV LIVE at Blenheim Palace is an immersive event showcasing a range of electric vehicles, from cars to ebikes, with the opportunity to test drive and ride both, alongside the showcase of green living technology such as heat pumps, solar panels, and battery storage solutions. Tickets also give full access to the rest of the Blenheim Palace site.
The Explorer is just one of several EVs Ford is offering test drives in at the event, with the Mach-E and E-Transit also available.
We recommend pre-booking your drive of the Ford Explorer, to be guaranteed a chance to drive this electric SUV. You’ll need to be at least 25, have held a full UK driving licence for two years, and have less than six points on your licence. We also advise getting yourself a DVLA check code, ahead of the experience.
