First GMC Hummer electric vehicle (EV) arrives in the UK

General Motors (GM) first GMC Hummer pickup has arrived in the UK. This high-performance electric vehicle (EV) has been brought to the UK by luxury car specialist Clive Sutton

Once the choice of the rappers and the rich and famous, the second coming of this utility vehicle is no longer a gas-guzzling monster. Instead, this zero-emission electric vehicle delivers more than 350 miles of zero-emission range combined with supertruck performance.

With 1,000 horsepower and 1,200lb-ft of torque, the new electric Hummer can hit 0-60mph (0-97kph) in just 3.3 seconds. This makes it supercar fast while boasting expansive seating for five, plus bags of cargo space.

While its monstrous speed on road is impressive, its off-road capabilities are exceptional. An optional ‘Extract’ mode allows the entire truck to raise around 15cm while the air suspension also works to optimise aerodynamics by lowering the car at motorway speeds.

Measuring 2.0m high, 2.34m wide and more than 5.5m long, the colossal Hummer EV guarantees presence wherever it goes. Despite its bulk, the pickup has the manoeuvrability of a much smaller vehicle thanks to its optional ‘Crabwalk’ capability. This utilises rear-wheel steering to enable the truck to traverse diagonally at low speeds.

Clive Sutton, founder and CEO, said: “As soon as the GMC Hummer EV was announced our customers have been desperate to see the model in the UK.

“Now that we have imported the first one, we anticipate orders outstripping supply as buyers clamour to be among the first in Europe to own this electric supertruck.”

Off-road, owners can benefit from independent front and rear suspension, full underbody armour, rock sliders and the optional ‘Ultravision’ system. This utilises 18 cameras to provide every possible viewpoint, enabling accurate navigation around obstacles or in tight spaces.

Media reports suggest slow production volumes for the new Hummer EV with as few as 12 built a day. This is seriously constraining availability. Of the 80,000 pre-orders taken, less than a thousand have been delivered to customers, so demand for the model in the States is sky-high.

As US retailers are not constrained by the ‘Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price’ (MSRP), the Pickup currently sells for more than $200,000 in the domestic market.

When the Hummer lands in the UK, it costs substantially more because of international shipping, VAT duty, local registration fees and vehicle conformity testing all taken into account. The Edition 1 model will cost around £320,000 on-the-road in the UK. While it is a showcase of what can be achieved with an electric vehicle, at this price, we don’t expect to see too many of them on British roads.

It was recently announced that the GMC HUMMER EV would be entering the global gaming world in a big way. For the first time, the world’s first all-electric supertruck will be a part of Activision’s critically acclaimed Call of Duty video game franchise in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II video game.
