Ferrari Luce: Maranello reveals its first fully-electric model

Ferrari unveils the Luce, its first electric car with 1,035hp, 530km range, and Jony Ive design.

Ferrari has revealed the Ferrari Luce, the first fully-electric car to be launched by the brand, which it says opens a new chapter in the history of the prestige brand.

The Luce is built on a bespoke EV platform, with some technology derived from previous Ferrari models to ensure this model stays true to Ferrari’s origins in the electric era. Four electric motors, one for each wheel, deliver a maximum power output of around 1,035 horsepower, allowing for a 0-100 kmh time of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 310 kmh. A high capacity 122 kWh battery also means the Ferrari Luce can travel over 530 kilometres on a single charge.

Combine that with four doors and seating for five – another production first for Ferrari – and this model will be a suitable grand tourer. However, as you’d expect for a Ferrari, its price will still be a cut above the likes of the Porsche Taycan – with prices expected to start at €550,000 in Europe.

The Luce’s unique shape, never seen before on a Ferrari, is functional too – with the Luce achieving the lowest drag coefficient of any road-going Ferrari ever produced, aided by technology such as active aerodynamic grilles and lower-able ride height.

The design of the car was undertaken with input from design collective LoveFrom, which includes ex-Apple designer Sir Jony Ive and Australian designer Marc Newson. Ive’s previous stint at Apple is most noticeable when it comes to the interior of the Ferrari Luce, with clear user interfaces and a mix of physical and digital controls to create a highly tactile feel.

First deliveries of the Ferrari Luce to customers are expected later this year.
