As more CPOs continue to grow their public charging networks across the United Kingdom, pan-European operator Fastned has marked the launch of its 40th UK site.
Fastned brings ultra-rapid EV charging to Liverpool
The new charging site is located at Liverpool’s Brunswick Business Park, comprising of eight bays for ultra rapid charging. The charging units used at the site are Fastned’s flagship 400kW units, capable of adding as much as 200 miles of range to a typical EV in only 10 minutes, provided the EV is built to take full advantage of those 400kW speeds.
The launch of Fastned’s latest UK site comes amid a flurry of growth for the UK’s public charging network. According to Zapmap, there are now over 121,000 public chargers across the UK spread over 46,000 locations. Just under 14,000 of those public chargers are ultra-rapid, offering speeds of 150kW and above. The rollout of these ultra-rapid units are crucial in order to make long-distance journeys in an EV a worry of the past.
With significant year-on-year growth in EV sales, demand for public charging in the UK is set to rocket. Other CPOs are also ramping up investment to meet untapped demand – including Allego, who this week announced a significant €100 million investment to expand its UK network.
