EVgo is teaming up with Meijer to expand EV charging options in the Midwest

EVgo has been on a rapid expansion plan, and this next step could see the charge point operator (CPO) take over the Midwest. The Meijer partnership will add up to 480 new fast-charging stalls at Meijer stores across six states: Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.

The move comes as EV adoption grows rapidly in the Midwest. EVgo has already installed 24 charging stalls at six Meijer locations in Michigan and Ohio. Now, the company plans to open up to 30 new stations by the end of 2026 and 30 more by 2027.

EVgo President, Dennis Kish, commented:

“Fast charging should be an effortless part of drivers’ daily routines, and nothing is more routine than a trip to the grocery store. EV adoption is growing in the Midwest, and by adding hundreds of new fast charging stalls with the region’s leading supercenter, EVgo’s partnership with Meijer shows our companies’ shared commitment to delivering an elevated charging experience for EV drivers living or traveling throughout the Midwest.”

Meijer, a leading Midwest grocery retailer, is committed to sustainability. Over 35% of its stores already have EV chargers. The company has also reduced its carbon emissions by 50%, achieving this milestone a year ahead of schedule.

This partnership reflects a shared vision for sustainability. EVgo reported a record quarter earlier this year. On top of that, it recently secured a conditional $1.05 billion loan guarantee from the Department of Energy. Look out America, EVgo is here.

Meijer’s Director of Environmental Compliance and Sustainability, Erik Petrovskis, said:

“Access to electric vehicle charging is an essential pillar of our broader sustainability goals and we’re proud to partner with EVgo as part of our ongoing environmental stewardship efforts. As we continue to connect more customers with these charging resources, we are able to make notable progress toward minimizing our shared emissions and ensuring a more sustainable future for all.”

For EV drivers, this means more charging options in familiar locations. Charging while shopping is a well-proven concept, and will bring EV ownership closer to countless Americans.
