- EVgo, which already operates over 1,000 fast charging stations across over 35 states in the US, has revealed a planned increase of a further 400 charging locations, and will become ‘flagship locations’ for the charging network.
- The high number of installations will be achieved with its longstanding partner, General Motors.
- These chargers, which will be located in major cities and towns, will have fast chargers with up to 350kW of power, ensuring great performance with even the fastest charging EVs on the market.
EVgo’s partnership with GM to install flagship EV chargers across the US
As these new locations will be flagship charging stations, which hope to push a new benchmark for the quality of charging stations within the US, the stations are expected to have up to 20 individual chargepoints per location, as well as some of these being 350kW ultra-fast chargers. In addition, these locations will be covered from weather, and have high levels of lighting and security cameras, increasing the security of the locations.
Set to be installed in states such as Arizona, California, Florida, New York, and Texas, these stations will be located next to existing amenities, like shopping centres and restaurants, to increase their convenience. The first of these flagship locations is set to be opened in 2025. Coexisting with recent NEVI-related funding delivering highway EV chargers in states such as California and Illinois, inter-state EV travel across the states is only going to get easier.
Dennis Kish, President at EVgo, commented on the announcement:
The future of EV charging is larger stall count locations, high-power charging, and designing around features that customers love – such as pull-through access, canopies and convenient amenities. Through this next evolution of EVgo and GM’s esteemed collaboration, the future of EV charging is here. In order to be the charging provider of choice, we need to lead on customer satisfaction, and we will continue to innovate to deliver a charging experience that is convenient, comfortable, and dependable for current and future EV drivers.
