Dr. Vicky Edmonds, key to the 2030 ICE ban, gains new role as CEO of EVA England at crucial juncture for UK’s transition

EVA England has announced Dr. Vicky Edmonds as its new CEO. Vicky brings nearly 20 years of experience in government policy on net zero and transport. Under her expertise, the EV advocacy group is aiming for new heights.

Dr. Vicky Edmonds says:

“I am delighted to be taking on the role of EVA England’s Chief Executive Officer. As an EV driver for 6 years now,  I have first-hand experience of the many opportunities these cars bring – not least the ease with which they fit into a busy family life – and have long been a passionate promoter of the role they can play in reducing our transport emissions.

The EV sector is at a critical point. Sales of EVs and installation of chargepoints are increasing at ever higher rates, yet coverage of EVs can at times be confusing and damaging. An independent voice for EV drivers has never been more important. And as the champion for that voice, EVA England delivers the powerful message that these cars can and do work for the consumer. We have a key role to play in helping drivers overcome perceived barriers to EV uptake – namely cost, fair and easy access to charging, and miscommunication. I look forward to working with our members and partners in delivering that mission.”

Vicky previously led the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OZEV). There, she developed policies like the ever-discussed 2030 phase-out of petrol and diesel cars. She also managed key projects, including the £950m Rapid Charging Fund, which expands national EV infrastructure.

As an EV driver for six years, Vicky owns a BMW i3 and Polestar 2. She aims to tackle challenges like cost, charging accessibility, and misinformation surrounding EV ownership. As the UK falls short of its ZEV mandate goals, it’s a crucial time for new leadership, and a reinvigorated strategy to ensure the world knows that EVs are better.

Under her leadership, EVA England will host Town Hall meetings to gather drivers’ feedback. The first session is on January 29, 2025.

Warren Philips, Chair of EVA England, praised Vicky’s appointment:

“The extensive experience Vicky Edmonds brings to this role is a testament to how our association has evolved into a trusted and independent voice for EV drivers across the country.

We are profoundly grateful to Vicky for dedicating the next chapter of her highly successful career to ensuring that all aspects of the EV sector, from charging infrastructure to the cost of ownership, truly meet and respond to drivers’ real-world priorities.

Vicky’s leadership marks an exciting new chapter for EVA England. A push for electrification this year could tip the balance of ICE and EV, and establish a new normal in the automotive market.
