- Spark Alliance, launched by four major EV charging companies, unites 1,700+ stations and 11,000 chargers across 25 countries.
- EV drivers can charge and pay using one app at any Spark Alliance station, eliminating multiple accounts and payments.
- By offering 100% renewable energy and expanding infrastructure, Spark Alliance aims to boost EV adoption across Europe.
Atlante, Electra, Fastned, and IONITY unite to launch Spark Alliance
The initiative is simplifying EV charging by integrating over 1,700 stations and 11,000 fast-charging points across 25 European countries. For EV drivers, this means seamless access to charging stations using a single app, regardless of the operator.

A unified network
Public charging has long been a pain point for EV owners. Multiple apps, complex payment systems, and inconsistent pricing often create frustration. Spark Alliance promises to change that.
Under the new system, drivers will be able to charge and pay using their existing charging app at any Spark Alliance station. There’s no need to download new software or set up additional payment methods. The four companies will also integrate their networks into each other’s route planners. This will make it easier to find reliable fast chargers on the go.
Michiel Langezaal, Co-Founder and CEO, Fastned, commented:
“Electric drivers often find themselves in a maze: too many apps, chargecards, and low-quality charging stations creating confusion and anxiety. We’re solving this by bringing together Europe’s premier charging companies to create the smoothest charging experience across Europe’s largest network. In a crowded market, Spark Alliance stations will stand out from the crowd as a sign of quality and trust – simplifying the entire charging experience for drivers and accelerating EV adoption.”
Paving the Way for Mass EV Adoption

In February 2024, Europe celebrated the installation of its one-millionth EV charging point, marking a significant milestone in the continent’s e-mobility journey. However, the distribution of these chargers is highly uneven, with nearly 61% concentrated in just three countries: the Netherlands, Germany, and France. This disparity highlights the pressing need for a more balanced and accelerated expansion of charging infrastructure across all European regions to support the growing demand for electric vehicles and meet ambitious climate targets.
Spark Alliance represents a significant step toward mainstream EV adoption. By offering 100% renewable energy at its stations and standardising the public charging experience, the alliance is removing key barriers to electric mobility.
Jeroen van Tilburg, CEO, IONITY, celebrated the launch:
“Driving and charging an electric vehicle should be exciting — not overwhelming. Our collaboration, powered by Europe’s leading dedicated charging operators, marks a major step forward and sends a strong signal for e-mobility in Europe: reliable fast charging, simplified across 25 EU countries — all within the app drivers already trust. United by a shared mission, we’re paving the way for a new era of clean, seamless travel across Europe.”
