- EV drivers in the UK borough of Hertsmere, just North of Greater London, are set to benefit from an additional 74 public EV chargers, following a significant investment from charge point operator E.ON Drive.
- Thanks to a partnership between E.ON Drive and Hertsmere Borough Council, the 74 EV charging points are set to open across nine car parks across the borough.
- Three of these sites have already gone live, with the remaining installations set to come online later this year.
Hertsmere benefits from new array of EV chargers
The first sites to go live are located in Borehamwood, Bushey and Potters Bar, with the six remaining sites set to arrive before the end of the year. AC and DC charging speeds of up to 50kW will be on offer, giving drivers new opportunities for rapid charging.
These charging locations are based in a variety of locations, such as council car parks and leisure centres. This infrastructure will both support those unable to charge their EV at home, as well as those needing to charge up at popular destinations across the area. This is just the initial phase of the rollout, with additional charging locations also set to come online in the borough in 2026 in phase two.
E.ON Drive has been expanding public EV charging infrastructure right across the UK, with the CPO also opening ultra-rapid charging hubs across Scotland, as well as launching its first Welsh EV charging hub back in 2024. The firm has also enabled impressive charge point growth in Coventry, in a strategic energy partnership with Coventry City Council. As a result of this, Coventry now has some of the highest levels of public charging infrastructure in the UK outside of London, with 500 public charging points per 100,000 residents.
With the UK working towards a 300,000 public charge point target by 2030, expanding CPOs such as E.ON Drive will help push the current figure of 86,000 charge points further.
Dev Chana, Managing Director for E.ON Drive Infrastructure UK, commented:
“Reliable and convenient charging infrastructure is key to giving people the confidence to make the switch to cleaner transport. These new charging points across key community locations are just another part of helping to build a network that supports drivers as they switch to electric vehicles.”
