E.ON to install six major ultra-rapid EV charging hubs across Scotland

  • E.ON Drive Infrastructure is set to significantly expand Scotland’s access to public, ultra-rapid EV charging, with plans to build new hubs at six sites in Scotland.
  • The six new hubs will join E.ON’s charging hub in Aberdeen, which was the first ultra-rapid hub from the CPO to be opened in Scotland.
  • Coming to a total of 42 new ultra-rapid charge points, these hubs will be located in or near major locations such as Edinburgh, Dundee, Stirling, and Dunfermline – enabling high-speed electric vehicle charging for both local and long-distance drivers.

Scotland’s ultra-rapid charging options set to expand

Whilst in the UK, Scotland already has the highest number of EV chargers per head outside of London, E.ON notes that distances between chargers, particularly ultra-rapid units, is still a gap that needs filling – which it hopes to achieve with these new hubs, helping to further strengthen the EV charging link on routes between the two major cities of Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The charging units themselves are set to be 300kW units, capable of adding up to 150 miles range in 10 minutes, in EVs with the highest charging speeds.

2024 was a busy year for E.ON’s charging network expansion in the UK, with the CPO also launching its first EV ultra-rapid charging hub for Wales. With this significant Scottish expansion, it looks like it’ll be a similar story in 2025 – with all new projects contributing to the UK government’s target to reach 300,000 public charge points by 2030. The Scottish Government also recently pledged a £6.3 million investment to bring a further 3,550 public charging points to the Ayrshire and Glasgow City regions.

Dev Chana, Managing Director of E.ON Drive Infrastructure UK, commented on the expansion:

“Our goal is to make electric driving seamless and accessible for everyone, and these new charging hubs are a significant step forward in Scotland’s transition to cleaner transportation. But this is just the start.

E.ON operates thousands of charging points right across Europe and these new hubs for Scotland are the latest part of a bigger drive to expand our EV charging network across the UK, part of a far wider expansion across the UK and another example of our commitment to creating greener infrastructure across the country.”
