  • Energy Superhub Oxford, a £41 million EV charging hub project borne out of a collaboration at the EV SUMMIT, is celebrating its third anniversary of delivering rapid and ultra-rapid charging to EV drivers in Oxford.
  • The charging hub, which brings together three CPOs, Fastned, Wenea, and Tesla Supercharger, provides charging for 42 EVs at once.
  • In the three years since its opening, the site has now charged over 137,000 vehicles – equating to around 135 EVs per day.

Oxford’s 42-bay EV charging hub is now three years old

The site’s positioning at the Redbridge Park & Ride, just on the outskirts and Oxford and a stones throw from the major A34 trunk road, has proven to be a big hit with EV drivers – with over 137,000 vehicles charged up since its opening (or around 135 EVs a day). This equates to just under 15 million miles worth of EV travel, with over 3,500 tonnes of carbon saved.

With a direct connection to the National Grid’s transmission network, the site has a maximum energy capacity of 10MW, which until recently made it the most powerful EV charging hub in Europe. This energy capacity has also enabled Oxford’s significant electric bus rollout, and the excess capacity also allows for the number of charge points at the superhub to be expanded further in the future.

The EV SUMMIT was a crucial tool for the original project, helping to forge partnerships between the firms involved back at the 2018 summit, leading to the eventual opening of the superhub back in July 2022. This year’s EV SUMMIT brings even more opportunities for emobility firms to build crucial business connections, as EVs enter the early mainstream.

Ade Thomas, Founder of World EV Day and EV SUMMIT, commented:

“The EV SUMMIT is designed to deliver substantive outcomes for our partners. Perhaps its biggest success is to be the platform that brought together a series of organisations that led to the £41 million Energy Superhub Oxford initiative, and the Redbridge Superhub, which was, until recently, Europe’s most powerful EV charging hub.”

Rapid and ultra-rapid hubs with numerous charging bays such as the Energy Superhub Oxford are becoming increasingly common across the UK. In fact, new Zapmap data shows that the number of charging hubs (those with six bays or more) online in the UK rose 25% in the first half of 2025 alone.
