Emterra Environmental adds eight Mack LR Electric refuse trucks to decarbonise waste collection in Canada

Emterra Environmental has unveiled its first fleet of EV refuse trucks. The fleet consists of eight Mack LR Electric refuse trucks which will begin operations in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, Canada. The new fleet is part of Emterra’s multi-year contract for residential curbside collection with the cities of Courtenay and Comox.

Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America, commented:

“We are excited that Emterra Environmental and the city of Courtenay and the town of Comox chose the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle to help them accomplish their goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).”

The introduction of these electric trucks aligns with the CleanBC Program’s ambitious goal to cut climate-changing emissions by 40% by 2030. The eight Mack LR Electric models are set to start service in August and will cater to around 25,000 households and businesses in the region.

Decarbonising urban fleets is an essential step towards net-zero. These fleets contribute massively to poor air quality, noise pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. With last-mile delivery fleets and services electrifying the world over, we’re starting to see serious movement towards cleaner cities and urban areas.
