Electrogenic converts beautiful 1967 Series 1¼ Jaguar E-type Coupe into a modern electric classic car

Electrogenic, a pioneering classic car electrification company that takes beautiful classic cars and sympathetically converts them to zero-emission vehicles, has announced it will be electrifying the iconic 1967 Series 1¼ Jaguar E-type Coupe.

This comes ahead of the London Classic Car Show, which runs from 25 to 27 June 2021, where the car will be on display for the first time. This is good timing with the Jaguar E-type celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

The Oxford-based leader in classic car electric vehicle (EV) technology, who recently developed off-road electric Land Rovers for farm use in conjunction with Worthy Farm and Cardiff University, now offers E-type electric conversions.

Customers have a choice of three advanced zero-emission powertrains. Each provides a different driving experience and level of performance.

This ‘Tourer’ option offers nimble cornering and a lively balance between handling and range. It has a top speed of 100mph (161kph) delivered through the car’s original gearbox to retain the feel of classic driving.

The ‘Sprint’ conversion offers 470Nm of torque, once again delivered through the car’s original gearbox. This conversion exceeds the original quoted E-type performance figures and the additional weight is kept low in the chassis for optimal balance and handling.

Both the Tourer and Sprint options offer an approximate electric range of 150 miles (241km). There is also the option of one or two range-extenders that will add approximately 50 miles (80km) of additional range each. Prices for the conversion, which require a donor car to be provided, start from £54,000 (+VAT) for the ‘Tourer’ and £62,000 (+VAT) for the ‘Sprint’.

The range-topping high-performance ‘Grand Tourer’ conversion delivers a re-imagined E-type driving experience. This option removes the original gearbox, updating the power delivery and drivetrain to that of a modern electric vehicle.

The electric powertrain delivers 300kW and 600Nm of torque for high performance. This is combined with the ease of use of a modern electric car with no gears. It offers fast charging while maintaining the E-type’s timeless appearance.

The Grand Tourer option offers a range of up to 250 miles (402km). Prices for the conversion, which once again requires a donor car to be provided, start from £80,000 (+VAT).

All Electrogenic E-Type conversions retain the character of the original car. The interior maintains the car’s original dashboard, with switches and dials repurposed where appropriate. For example, the fuel gauge neatly displays the state of charge.

The new equipment is designed to be integrated using the existing engine mounts, with no modification to the vehicle’s bodywork. This makes the conversion fully reversible if required. Ultimately, it’s great to see such beautiful classic cars becoming better versions of themselves.

Steve Drummond, director and co-founder of Electrogenic, said:  “Each vehicle we re-create is customised, but engineering three distinct motor options gives our customers a clear starting point for the conversion.

“Each of the motor systems complements our battery and power electronics module that bolts directly to the original engine mounts, and which is designed to accommodate both left and right-hand drive.”
