Electric Ford Capri: The mainstream EV may be revealed next week

  • Ford’s latest EV for Europe, the Ford Capri, is purported to be revealed next week, marking the fourth Ford EV available within the region.
  • It follows the Ford E-Transit, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Ford Explorer, with another six Ford-branded EVs also headed to Europe.
  • The launch would mark the return of the Capri name, which has not been used on a Ford vehicle since the 1980s.

Is the Ford Capri EV reveal imminent?

Ford has all but confirmed the return of the Capri name, which will return as a fully-electric coupe-crossover. That’s come from constant rumours over the past few months, now being ramped up by Ford itself, with a mysterious ad campaign across the internet. Clicking on the advert reveals some close-up images of the new EV, and states that ‘the legend returns on July 10th’. The teaser also shows a coupe-style bodyline, which hints at how the brand will differentiate the Capri from the more rugged, boxier looking Explorer.

The new Capri is set to be built at Ford’s Cologne plant, which was recently overhauled to become an EV-ready production line. It’ll join the Ford Explorer, which is also being built at the same facility. Much like the Explorer, the Capri will also be based on the EV-native Volkswagen MEB platform, the same used in popular electric cars such as the Volkswagen ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq.

The Capri will likely be priced closely to the £39,875 ($51,000) Ford Explorer. Those waiting for a cheaper Ford EV will need to wait until 2027, when the manufacturer is set to release a worldwide, sub-$30k electric car.
